What else we're reading

Jeanette Winterson
I've read her first novel 'Oranges are not the only fruit' about a girl adopted to a pentecostal fanatic, the only word to describe her mother. The book is semi autobiographical, in it and she quotes the line her mother says to her 'Why be happy when you could be normal?', after she fell in love with a girl. Winterson uses this as the title for her bio which she released last year. She was in Sydney for the recent writers festival. I've got both books if anyone wants them, they're a quick read but you need to read Oranges first. The BBC did a mini series on Oranges which is also good. I just love the title of the bio though.

  1. Notes from a small island: Bill Bryson
Have had a few horrible weeks to I turned to my old favourite. This book never fails to cheer me up. I laugh out loud in the same places. To me this book is like pulling on your favourite jumper!
