All that I am / Anna Funder

The book for March is Miles Franklin award winner All that I am by author and model look alike, Anna Funder.
The story was inspired by her real life friend Ruth Blatt, a member of the Nazi resistance in the years leading up to World War 2.

  1. Hi all,
Sorry I missed the last meeting. I loved Wonder too.
I have mixed feelings about All That I Am. I thought that it was superbly written and had excellent historical content. I was unaware of how persecuted people were even after they had escaped Germany and were in London - or how many Germans opposed Hitler and were actively trying to prevent a second world war. The character of Ruth was fascinating - especially seeing her through different stages of her life. Toller irritated me, but interesting to have another point of view of events unfolding.

Looking forward to catching up and discussing further.

  2. I liked that it contained so much historic content, it opened my eyes to a part of history that I had no knowledge. I also thought it was amazing that here in Australia, although in Melbourne, not Sydney as set in the book, Ruth Blatt was living. So many people with fascinating stories, that aren't fiction.
