Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides

Our book for May 2012:
Middlesex tells the story of Cal, a hermaphrodite raised as a girl by her Greek-American parents. When Cal reaches puberty she begins to recognise a difference between herself and her classmates.

Here is link to the First Tuesday Bookclub page. It has a bit of interesting info including some very mixed reviews.

  2. I know we have swapped to The Help and are leaving this book for a "big read', but I am half way through and loving it. One of the most interesting reads I have done in a while. Not for the feint hearted as there are some difficult concepts. I am loving the author's style for story telling. At times he seems a bit like Tim Winton. It is a long book, but I am not finding it a difficult read. Plenty to discuss in this one.
